The community served by the Bethpage Water
District can have confidence that the water that runs through their taps is
a high quality product. In addition to meeting the standards of the
Federal Environmental Protection Agency, our water meets or exceeds the
stricter requirements of the New York State Department of Health and the
Nassau County Department of Health. The District uses a certified
independent laboratory to test our water to be sure that the water that we
send to our customers, in fact, meets these high standards. The
technology that is used today allows our laboratory to analyze water at infinitesimal
levels of parts per billion. That's like finding a copper penny
that has been lost in a pile of a billion silver dimes or comparing 1 second
over 32 years.
In addition to conducting well testing and routine
maintenance of its infrastructure, the District also administers bi-weekly
distribution sampling of water in schools and businesses. More than
1,500 samples monitoring over 100 different parameters, are sent throughout
the year to an independent lab for testing and the Nassau County Health
Department conducts its own tests as well.
