When water is initially pumped from underground aquifers,
it may have trace amounts of contaminants such as Volatile Organic
Contaminants (VOC's) from various sources. The district uses industry
proven equipment called "air
strippers" at three of its plants and "GAC"
or granular activated carbon vessels at one of it's plants to
remove any traces of these compounds that may be present in the water before
the water enters the public water supply system. This technology
is used by water suppliers all across the United States.
