 installs hydrant flag

The Bethpage Water District provides and maintains 1056 fire hydrants in it's district and has installed 5 foot reflective masts on our fire hydrants to assist the fire department in locating fire hydrants in emergency situations.  We test each one twice per year so that they are ready for emergency use.  Fire hydrants may only be used by Water District personnel or the fire department.  If you see a fire hydrant that is being improperly used or is damaged, leaking, or otherwise in need of repair, please call the Water District to have it checked.

When heavy snow hits our town, fire hydrants can get buried in snow banks when snow plows push snow to the side of the roads.  Bethpage Water district asks our customers to please shovel out the fire hydrants near their homes or businesses.  Clearing a fire hydrant of snow will assist the fire department, which needs immediate access to the fire hydrants in the event of a fire or a emergency.  Time spent searching for a buried hydrant could take time away from life-saving and firefighting efforts.
